In Tallahassee, the Riley House Museum offers guided and self-guided tours of the historic home of John Gilmore Riley, constructed in 1890, and the Smokey Hollow Commemorative Site. Visitors journey through the antebellum period, the Civil War, Reconstruction, and the Civil Rights era from an African American perspective. The museum also features step-on guided tours highlighting other African American landmarks in Tallahassee. Admission includes the historic home tour, the Smokey Hollow site with spirit homes and a remembrance fountain, and current exhibitions. The Riley House Museum is open Tuesday through Thursday and by reservation.
